It's February and that can only mean one thing in the indie scene, it's Next Fest time baby, and we’re coming at you fresh with a wrap up of some of our favourite demos from the event (that you can still play over the weekend) and promise to be launching in the coming months.

Whilst they’re not yet released, they all promise a very enjoyable 5-15 hours of gameplay when they launch in the coming months (in some cases, more through replayability) as a well as a gripping sense of satisfaction from completing them.

Remember that wishlists, follows, and following these devs on socials goes a long way to - not just pleasing the Steam algorithm gods - but also lifting the spirits of some very overworked and stressed teams!

Before we jump in, a quick poll on your favourite title from our selection - comment or reply to this email with why you picked your favourite for a chance to win a key when it comes out later this year!

Next Fest Demos!

Read on to find out what has been drawing us away from work this week, it’s a miracle we’re even getting this newsletter out to be honest 🥱

BURGLIN GNOMES

This game haunted Sophie’s dreams after playing it. It’s a great friend slop experience where you break into someone’s house and have a series of missions to complete like: steal 5 things from the hallway or cause an explosion. It’s janky intense chaos (in the best way).

EVERYTHING IS CRAB

A roguelike built around the scientific phenomenon where everything eventually evolves into a crab. In a single run your starting blob could evolve over 100 times, growing tentacles or turning your saliva poisonous. You just really have to try your best to not turn into a crab.

REPLACED

This game has been on our collective radar for a while and is finally launching 14th April and we cannot wait. A cyberpunk thriller where you’re trying to uncover the truth behind the evil corporation that created you. The atmosphere is incredible and it’s backdropped by a beautiful 2.5D post-apocalyptic America.

WANDERBURG

What did you say? What if medieval castles had wheels and what if you could strap as many guns and canons to it as humanly possible? Ah yes, we have that. The gameplay is slick and well made, we’d definitely recommend checking it out.

DOSA DIVAS

The Steam short description promises a spicy narrative turn-based RPG against an evil fast food empire. It’s pretty spot on and like the studio’s previous game, Thirsty Suitors, it delivers on mixing compelling gameplay with a narrative that will have you laughing, thinking, and entirely engrossed.

DENSHATTACK

Being published by friends of the newsletter, Fireshine, Denshattack is an in-your-face train drifting, tricking, and flipping game that channels the very best of old-school Tony Hawk titles and SSX Tricky style point scoring. Combine all that with the roguelite system and boy do you have a satisfying game.

TRUCKFUL

Remember when Dredge asked you, what if fishing but something weird is going on? Well we see that and raise you, what if delivery driver but something weird is going on? The art style helped this pop off when it was announced, and the new demo shows plenty of eery promise.

THE DUNGEON EXPERIENCE

Crabs? So hot right now. The second game that heavily features crabs, this could not be more different. The demo is a wild time, and the full game promises a ridiculous time as you chase the dream of financial freedom, as a mud crab.

GAMBONANZA

We love a solid Balatro-inspired title here in the Weekend Games towers, and Gambonanza offers you a twist on chess, where you’ll build a set of mixed pieces, level up the board, and embark on multiple runs. Whilst it's replayable, it feels like an experience that won’t outstay it's welcome, and offer as much gameplay as you want.

PHONOPOLIS

Puzzle Fans we got you. In Phonopolis you'll solve a wide variety of playful puzzles and help Felix end an oppressive reign in a cardboard city inspired by avant-garde art. The puzzles scratch your brain in the right way, the final experience could be something really special when it launches later this year.

Our plan with these newsletters is to keep the mid-month edition as a handy wrap up of that month's activity, and then the end of month edition gives us room to have more themed fun like this or January’s Best of 2016 Edition.

We’re starting to gather our recommendations on our Steam publisher page. You'll also find us on socials like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube if you want more suggestions and video breakdowns of some of our picks.

Thank you to the hundreds of you that have followed so far, just think, if you all told one friend about this newsletter, Sophie, me, and the team would be really, really, chuffed.

George & the Team.
